At Primo’s, we believe that when our neighbors are in trouble, we fire up the smoker. Our journey has been defined by the moments we spent serving the Central Valley and the Sierra Foothills.
Date: 2020 – 2021
When the pandemic hit, we saw our neighbors struggling. We turned Primo’s into a community resource, serving free, hot wood-fired meals at the Oakdale Library and Riverbank Scout Hall. No questions asked—just good food for those who needed it most during the lockdowns.
August 2020
As the Moc Fire threatened Groveland and Big Oak Flat, we headed "up the hill." While families were being evacuated and crews were battling the lightning-sparked blazes, we provided hot BBQ meals at the evacuation lines to give families a moment of comfort amidst the chaos.
August 2025
When the historic town of Chinese Camp was threatened, we were on the front lines. We set up at the relief centers to fuel the firefighters and residents with the comfort of a warm meal when they needed it most.
For a long time, the pits were cold.
When I lost Tarah, the heart went out of my cooking. I stopped. I walked away from the smoke because the joy was gone. But grief has a way of showing you what matters. I looked at my daughters—and I thought of Tarah’s daughters—and I realized that the best way to honor her was to build something that would last long after I’m gone.
I started cooking again not because I had to, but because I have a promise to keep. Every cord of oak I burn and every meal I serve is a brick in the foundation I am building for four girls. Primo’s is my legacy, born from loss and fueled by the determination to make sure our daughters have a future they can be proud of.
When you see the smoke rising from my pits in Oakdale or Modesto, know that it’s more than just BBQ. It’s a tribute. It’s a mission. And it’s for them.
